Over weight and obesity are complex health problems that affect more than two thirds of adults. There are many health conditions associated with overweight and obesity including hypertension, coronary heart disease and type 2 diabetes. A study result concluded that high prevalence of overweight or obesity is associated with chronic diseases. For the present study three hundred adult women in the age of 25 to 45 years were selected from rural and urban areas of Beed district. The study result revealed that maximum number of adult women were having hypertension (high blood pressure) problem. It may be due to high intake of fatty and salty imbalanced foods, low physical activities, Lack of exercise etc. 42% of urban and 58% of rural sample have health problems like cardiovascular, diabetes, asthama etc. It is concluded that incidence of hypertension in adult women cannot be related to any single attribute to diet but it is an integration of dietary and other environmental factors also.
Antioxidant rich foods particularly of plant origin are considered to be most effective in preventing various diseases caused by reactive oxygen species oxidation. Since composition and hence pharmacological activities vary in different parts of plant, in the present study different parts of fruit - edible pulp and seed of Syzygium cumini and non-edible peel of Mangifera indica (Fazli) were selected and screened to determine the phytonutrients. Tannin, total phenol content, and antioxidant activities like scavenging, metal chelating, and ferric reducing activity of aqueous and ethanolic extract of samples were determined on day 7, 14 and 21days. Seeds of S.cumini appeared to be the most efficient natural antioxidant followed by the pulp. Due to water solubility of the antioxidant molecules aqueous extract of S.cumini recorded higher activity whereas the activity of M.indica peel was better in alcoholic extract. These findings suggest suitable use of the respective fractions as nutraceutical and functional food.
Fruits and Vegetables are an important part of a healthy diet, and variety is as important as quantity. By having a variety of types and colors of produce i.e., dark leafy green Vegetables, brightly colored red, yellow and orange vegetables and fruits in fresh or processed forms delivers the essential nutrients of the body which it needs. The bioactive components which are available only in fruits and vegetables are also equally exhibits antioxidant properties of micronutrients. A wide variety of processed food products has developed by the different food product innovators through applying different techniques in consideration of health view, minimizing food losses and extension of availability of food products in non-season also. Even though plenty of healthy food products are processing in now-a-days, still some non-nutritional factors i.e., inhibitors hinders the absorption of nutrients from the products. This is due to purely following of planning and preparation of unbalanced food combinations. One of the emerging and sustainable food based strategy is Food to Food fortification which consist of dietary modifications to either include in a meal that can promote the absorption of nutrient or to exclude foods that inhibit nutrient absorption. Fruits and Vegetables which are rich in bio active components are the potential sources for developing food based approaches such as Food to Food fortification to mitigate nutritional deficiencies.
Antioxidants present in Indian Medicinal herbs valued for storing fish oil. The work provides in addition to prevent lipid peroxidation a dosage compensation for illness achieved while using IMP incorporated fish oil. Total phenolic content, Reducing property, β carotene linoleic acid and DPPH assay were performed in extracts of Aloe barbadensis, Oscimum sanctum and Boerhavia diffusa. Storage index analyzed within 10 day intervals for oils added in three increasing concentration percentage of IMP extract. PV and TBA assay compared with a negative control shows a slow degradation in fish oil sample containing IMP extracts. Industries producing fish oil can be seriously pointed the issues concerned with healthy effects of this ingredient.
